During WWI, challenge coins were carried as a symbol of respect, loyalty, oath, and camaraderie for various units. The tradition of challenge coins is said to have come from a downed pilot that was brought back to the front lines and facing execution. The only thing he had to prove his identification was his coin. Nearly a century later, this tradition continues as Police Officers risk their lives every day for the safety of others.
This particular coin was designed to remind cops that their work is not in vain, even when it is difficult to see: the thin blue line matters and we’re doing work much bigger than ourselves.
*The color appears somewhat gold in the image. However, the coin is a silver color*
